Fire prevention with regard to plastic roof lighting fixtures
There are many industrial buildings/warehouses in the Netherlands that are experiencing problems with regard to fire safety related to roof lighting fixtures even when sprinkler systems have been installed. If fire breaks out in these buildings, it may prevent the roof lighting fixture from damaging the sprinkler head before it has a chance of doing its job. Firetexx has the solution for this! A solution that has also been approved by R2B.
The first roof lighting fixture was provided with a fire-resistant cloth by Firetexx at the start of July 1007 in partnership with Breman Brandbeveiliging. This cloth can be found in-between the plastic roof lighting fixture and the sprinkler head. The fire brigade and the insured requested a protective device with an automatic sprinkler system. A frequently occurring problem arose when the system was being designed: a few sprinkler heads had been installed under a skylight. It must be demonstrated with regard to this that this roof lighting fixture has a processing temperature of at least 50 degrees Celsius above the response temperature of the sprinklers. This means that if the sprinkler head must respond at 93 degrees Celsius, the roof lighting fixture must have a demonstrable processing temperature of 143 degrees Celsius. This cannot be demonstrated in many cases with regard to old roof lighting fixtures.
The original function of the roof lighting fixture remains safeguarded; a translucent cloth was chosen for this specific application. This ensures that staff can continue to benefit from the incidence of light provided by the roof lighting fixture.
